Korea to provide $1 mil. worth of humanitarian aid to Kenya over floods

Korea will provide $1 million worth of humanitarian assistance to Kenya following devastating floods in its central region that have left more than 200 people dead, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.

"Our government hopes that the provision will help with recovery efforts and that the residents in the affected areas will quickly be able to return to their daily lives," the ministry said in a release.

Heavy rains and flash floods have struck the central region of the East African country since late last month, leaving over 200 dead and some 170 others wounded.

More than 70 people have gone missing, with over 230,000 others having been displaced, according to data provided by the ministry, citing the Kenyan government. (Yonhap)
