Korea's envoy for the Group of 20 (G20) summit has taken part in the first preparatory meeting in Brazil, the host nation for next year's gathering, Seoul's foreign ministry said Friday.

Ambassador for International Cooperation Song In-chang attended the meeting of the G20 representatives, dubbed the "Sherpa" group, in Brasilia, from Monday to Wednesday, the ministry said.

A sherpa for an international conference is tasked with planning and negotiating the agenda items for discussions at the summit and the content of the summit agreement.

At the meeting, Song took note of Brazil's initiatives to promote the achievements of the G20 forum and promised that Korea will play a constructive role in carrying out the initiatives.

The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.

The next sherpa meeting will be held via virtual links in the first half of next year. (Yonhap)
