Oman ambassador affirms commitment to peace, renewable energy, sustainable development on 53rd National Day

On the 53rd National Day of the Sultanate of Oman, Ambassador to Korea Zakariya Al Saadi reflected on Oman's past, present and future, while emphasizing the nation's commitment to peace, diplomacy and sustainable development.

"In celebrating the National Day of my country, we are not just marking a historic milestone but also reflecting on our journey, embracing the present and drawing inspiration for the future," the ambassador said.

In addressing the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the ambassador called for international attention and reaffirmed Oman's firm stance. "We should seize the opportunity of our meeting today to reaffirm Oman's firm position in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people for freedom, dignity and self-determination," he said. Al Saadi proposed a solution rooted in international law and U.N. resolutions, advocating for an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and recognizing East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative.

Turning to bilateral relations with Korea, Al Saadi highlighted the strength of diplomatic ties and mutual respect between the two nations. "Oman values the Republic of Korea as a reliable ally across various sectors and is committed to peace," he said. The ambassador underscored the warmth and trust characterizing the relationship, leading to significant collaborations in trade, energy, technology and education, benefiting both countries immensely.

The speech also delved into Oman's Vision 2040, an ambitious plan aimed at positioning the Sultanate among developed nations through a diversified and productive economy. "Guided by the private sector, we seek integration with the global economy and an active role in global trade, ultimately striving for comprehensive and sustainable development," Al Saadi said.

Highlighting Oman's commitment to environmental sustainability, the ambassador detailed the national strategy for zero carbon and an energy transition, emphasizing the Sultanate's efforts to assume a leading position among green hydrogen-producing countries.

"The Sultanate of Oman has managed to take important steps to accelerate measures to regulate the hydrogen sector and develop the necessary legal frameworks and policies. All this aims to keep pace with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions," he said.
