S. Korean police chief calls on Philippines to promptly investigate homicide

Listen

South Korea's police chief on Wednesday sent a message to his Filipino counterpart, urging a prompt investigation into a homicide case involving a South Korean businessman and to call for measures to prevent any recurrence, officials here said.

In the message to Ronald Dela Rosa, National Police Agency chief Lee Cheol-seong requested that the Filipino authorities carry out a "fair and swift" probe into the case surrounding the South Korean citizen who was reportedly kidnapped and killed by local police officers last year.

Lee also called on the top Filipino official to sternly punish those responsible and strive to better protect South Koreans living in the country.

Regarding the case, the Filipino prosecution has indicted seven people, including two police officers.

South Korean police plan to send a high-level official to the Philippines next month to solicit opinions from South Korean residents in the country and hold talks with Filipino law enforcement authorities to discuss the latest incident. (Yonhap)
