S. Korea-Romania new visa accord set to take effect

South Korea and Romania will put their new visa waiver accord into effect next month, a measure expected to help promote economic ties, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

The two sides signed a deal last year to expand the bilateral visa waiver program and it is scheduled to take effect on March 13.

Under the agreement, South Korean businessmen and workers will be allowed to stay up to 180 days in Romania without a visa, and vice versa.

Currently, only South Korean and Romanian travelers with nonprofit purposes are exempted from visas for up to 90 days.

"So far, South Korean entrepreneurs launching businesses in Romania have suffered inconveniences from a long period for visa issuance," the ministry said. "Such trouble has been resolved institutionally." (Yonhap)
