SINGAPORE — A large-scale “hanbok” fashion show will be held in Singapore, Dec. 5, to showcase its beauty and elegance to Singaporeans. This is the first time for the traditional Korean clothing to be introduced to the public in Singapore.

The fashion show is part of the three-day finale event for the 2015 Korea Festival, dubbed SGKstar 2015, a year-long celebration of 40 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Singapore.

Organized by the South Korean Embassy to Singapore, the year-end festival will take place at Marina Bay Sands Convention Center Hall E from Dec. 4 to 6. The event was co-organized by the Korea Tourism Organization and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Lee Young-hee, a world famous and top Korean traditional costume designer, will be showcasing her hanbok designs, a major highlight of the festival.

The 40-minute show will consist of three segments — Traditional Hanbok, Modern Hanbok, and Clothes of Wind, which is Lee’s special collection.

“It is a rare chance to see her modern versions of the iconic Korean traditional costume that is well known around the world. In her designs, Lee retains the classic silhouette and clean lines of the hanbok,” said Yoon Jae-woong, press and culture councillor at the embassy.

Together with the fashion show, the festival will provide a complete Korean pop culture experience, including K-Pop concerts and an exhibition of Korean beauty, food and lifestyle products.

Among those who will take the stage are K-Pop idol groups — BtoB, Sistar, Monsta X, Day6, and Got7 — and K-Classic vocal group UAngel Voice.

There will also be cultural activities and performances held throughout the three days.

“Visitors can grab the latest beauty and fashion products, gadgets and popular Koreans snacks at the Korean beauty, food and lifestyle exhibition at the festival,” Yoon said.

“There will also be stalls selling Korean street food as well to keep visitors full and happy all day long.”
