China urges implementation of UN resolutions amid NK's rocket threat

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi persuaded the nations involved in the talks about North Korea’s nuclear program to implement the U.N. resolutions against the North’s nuclear and missile programs, as the North has warned it will launch a long-range rocket the next month.

Wang Yi told a forum at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Saturday that the nations of the Six-Party Talks -- South Korea, North Korea, the U.S., China, Russia and Japan – have a “shared responsibility to uphold peace and security on the peninsula and implement the U.N. Security Council resolutions,” according to a media report.

“Any intention or attempt to disrupt peace on the Korean Peninsula and security in Northeast Asia is unjustified and undesirable,” Wang Yi added, without mentioning any country.

He also said that conflict or war on the peninsula is “good for no one” and the Koreas “must not take any new action that could lead to dangerous tension.”

The forum marked the 10th anniversary of a deal in which North Korea agreed to abandon its nuclear program in exchange for aid and security assurances.

North Korean representatives were absent from the forum.

The Six-Party Talks have been stalled since 2008.

North Korea has conducted three nuclear tests since then.
