South Korean President Park Geun-hye will attend the funeral ceremony of Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew, which is slated to be held on Sunday, her office said Monday.
President Park will attend Lee's funeral ceremony scheduled to be held at the National University of Singapore at 2 p.m. on Sunday and console his bereaved family, said presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook in a media briefing.
Min also said Lee had a special relation with South Korea, visiting the country six times.
Earlier in the day, Park offered her deep condolences to Singaporeans over the death of the city-state's founding father.
Park said in a statement that she hopes Lee, respected by Singaporeans, may rest in peace.
She called Lee a friend of South Koreans, as he offered wisdom for the development of relations between South Korea and Singapore.
Lee, who transformed a port city into a thriving global finance center during his 31-year-old rule, died Monday at the age of 91. (Yonhap)
