Exhibition and performance
The Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul presents an exhibition and a theatrical performance this week.
“Umberto Albanese — Untitled” features Italy’s abstract painter, who achieved artistic success by changing from figurative style painting to abstract.
Albanese is known to be a constant “researcher” of new techniques, which had led to his success. In 2001, he was invited to exhibit at the Palace of the Nations in Geneva, and in 2011 at the 54th International Art Biennale of Venice.
Fifty-seven paintings will be on display at the Chung-A Art Center in Songpo-gu, Seoul. It will run from March 21 through April 10. For more information about the painter, visit www.umbertoalbanese.com.
“On the Concept of the Face, Regarding the Son of God” is a performance by Romeo Castellucci’s dance company Societas Raffaello Sanzio. God is a recurring theme for Castellucci, who is known to attempt to alter the mystical interpretation of religion through his work.
The performance is part of the BOM festival. Two performances will be available on March 22 and 23 at HanPAC Arko Arts Theater in Seoul. For more information, visit www.festivalbom.org.
United Kingdom 'Reading for Pleasure' seminar
The British Council presents a “Reading for Pleasure” seminar on March 20-21 in Seoul.
The Korea Arts Council is the co-organizer of the event prepared to encourage people to read more. Participants in the seminar include Cathy Rentzenbrink, director of “Quick Reads Initiative” and Tom Palmer, a former director for the Ilkley Literature Festival. United States of America Kyle Dillingham & Horsehoe Road
The Korea Foundation presents music by Kyle Dillingham & Horseshoe Road, a band from the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. on March 19.
The band is currently visiting Korea for “Art Across America,” an art exhibition that’s currently underway.
It is composed of a fiddler, bass player and guitarist, and is to showcase its unique music blending different genres like blues, jazz, country, rock and gospel.
The group won an award at the 2011 International Acoustic Music Awards for the Country/Bluegrass category. It also gave a performance at the National Museum of Korea last week. For more information visit www.kf.or.kr.
