A child in the United States has been found to have brought a gun to school, saying that he wanted to protect himself after the massacre in Connecticut took the lives of 20 young school children and more.
The 11-year-old boy, a sixth grader at the West Kearns Elementary School in Salt Lake City, Utah, took a .22 caliber handgun to school in his bag, wire service AFP said in a report.
Fox News said the boy aimed the gun at the head of a girl and said he will kill her if she told anyone about him carrying the gun.
Some local press reported that the parents of the boy made him carry the gun to protect himself in case something like what happened in Connecticut occurs.
The boy told investigators that he was carrying the gun to protect himself and his friends against such as that in Connecticut. He was booked for harboring illegal firearms and assault.
Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association broke its long silence since the Connecticut massacre and said it was drafting measures to ensure that such tragic incidents to not recur.
U.S. President Barack Obama also said he backs a new bill to revive an assault weapons ban and other new gun laws as initiated by the Democratic Party.
