Brazilian concert:

The Brazilian Embassy presents a piano recital “Commemorating Villa-Lobos” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Korea, on Tuesday.

Heitor Villa-Lobos is a modern Brazilian classical composer, and Brazilian-Korean pianist Leda Kim will perform the composer’s repertoire.

The event will be held at the Sejong Center for Performing Arts in Seoul.

The composer was self-taught, beginning with guitar improvisation. He had an interest in Brazilian folk music, combining it with Portuguese, African, American, Indian and European work.

His major works include operas, 12 symphonies, 17 string quartets, piano works and chamber music.

Kim was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She made her debut at the age of 12, and has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra, the Huntington Chamber Orchestra and the Festival Symphony Orchestra.

She has also given solo recitals and chamber music concerts in South America, Europe and Korea, and is now teaching at Mokwon University in Daejeon.
