New Embassy Building to Open

The Chinese Embassy will build a new 24-story building by 2012 in Myeongdong, downtown Seoul, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

The building site of 9,831 square meters, owned by the Chinese embassy, was home for the embassy until May 2002 when it moved to a new location. Currently the Chinese embassy is in Jongno.

It will start the construction of the office and residence facilities either late this year or early next year, and will be the largest among embassies in Korea. The Russian embassy is the largest in Korea for now.

The new embassy building will consist of two main buildings ― a 10-story office building and a 24-story apartment complex for embassy staffs. The residence complex will have a gym, swimming pool and hair salon.

Brazilian Movie to Be Presented at KCF

The Brazil-Korea Association presents the movie, "Un Grande Familia"(A Big Family), at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Korea Cultural Foundation in Seoul.

The film depicts a family whose father, suffering an incurable illness, struggles to recover the broken relationship among his family members. Based on a successful Brazilian TV show, the film was nominated for best comedy in Brazil last year.

The movie is 104 minutes and admission is free.

Contest on Climate Change

The British Embassy in Seoul, in conjunction with the British Council, is holding a contest on climate change for anyone over 16.

UCC (user created content) and poster design are the available formats. Applicants can choose one theme out of two: (1) Climate Change and its Consequences (2) What We Can Do to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

UCC must be less than 10-minutes long and 100 MB in size. Posters must be in RGB, 72dpi, 297mmx420mm, or jpg file.

A winner from each format will receive tickets to a climate change tour in the United Kingdom. Runners up will receive prizes donated by HSBC and BP Marks & Spencer.

Applicants are required to register at the web site of either the British Council or the embassy by April. 11, and can submit their final works between March 31 and April. 27.
