A five-member South Korean delegation, led by the country's defense minister, arrived in Pyongyang Tuesday, marking yet another milestone in military talks between the two Koreas, according to the communist nation's official news agency.
A chartered plane carrying the delegates, their entourage, and pool reporters left a Seoul airport earlier in the day for Pyongyang.
"A delegation of the south side with Minister of National Defense Kim Jang-soo as chief delegate arrived here Tuesday to participate in the second North-South defense minister-level talks," the Korea Central News Agency said in its one-paragraph English-version report. It provided no details.
The minister plans to hold three-day talks till Thursday with his North Korean counterpart Kim Il-chol on easing border tensions and boosting inter-Korean economic ties.
The previous defense ministerial talks between the two sides were held in 2000. The Korean Peninsula was divided into the capitalist South and the communist North in 1948. Two years later, the Korean War broke out, which ended in an armistice, leaving the two Koreas still in a state of war.
