The 77-part series, starring Lee Seo-jin and Han Ji-min, depicts the life of King Jeongjo (Lee Seo-jin), the 22nd ruler of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, known for his compassion toward commoners. The story begins with Jeongjo’s childhood and the tragic death of his father, Crown Prince Sado, who died after being locked inside a rice chest on the order of his own father, King Yeongjo. It follows as he reconnects with his childhood friends, including Seong Song-yeon (Han Ji-min), with whom he develops a romantic relationship.

'Jewel in the Palace' (2003-4)

This 54-part series, set in the Joseon Dynasty, follows the extraordinary journey of Jang-geum (Lee Young-ae), who rises from humble beginnings to become the first female chief royal physician. Despite being born into a low social class and facing constant gender discrimination in a male-dominated society, Jang-geum persevered through hardships. The narrative beautifully portrays her triumphs and setbacks, as well as her touching love story. 'Jumong, Prince of Legend' (2006-7)

The 81-part drama tells the epic story of Jumong (Song Il-kook), the legendary founder of the ancient Goguryeo Kingdom (37 B.C.E.-668 C.E.). Born as the son of King Dongmyeong, he faces numerous challenges due to palace intrigues and rival factions. He was forced to flee his homeland, but during his exile, he gathers loyal followers and hones his leadership and military skills. Ultimately, he returns and establishes the Goguryeo Kingdom, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. It is a sweeping tale of heroism and nation-building, showcasing the origins of one of Korea’s greatest ancient kingdoms.

Romance dramas

From daily dramas to melodramas and tearjerkers, K-dramas have a unique ability to evoke deep emotions. Often showcasing tragic themes, these shows have paved the way for the beloved genre we know, connecting with audiences on a profound emotional level.

'Winter Sonata' (2002)/ 'Autumn in My Heart' (2000)

"Autumn in My Heart" and "Winter Sonata," two masterpieces from director Yoon Seok-ho's "Four Seasons" series, captivated audiences not only in Korea but also overseas with their beautiful cinematography and poignant love stories, playing a leading role in the rise of the Korean wave.

"Autumn in My Heart" is a heartbreaking Korean drama about a forbidden love that is tested by family opposition, social stigma, and ultimately, fatal illness, culminating in a tragic ending.

"Winter Sonata" revolves around a woman who, unable to forget her first love, is stunned when, years after his tragic death in a car accident, she meets a man who looks exactly like him, rekindling old feelings and uncovering hidden truths.

'Lovers in Paris' (2004) / 'Lovers in Prague' (2005)

"Lovers in Paris" (2004) and "Lovers in Prague" (2005) are the first two dramas from star writer Kim Eun-sook's "Lovers" trilogy. "Lovers in Paris" is a typical Cinderella story of an ordinary woman falling in love with a prickly second-generation multinational company head.
