Studio Dragon, a CJ affiliate known for producing Netflix's original series “The Glory,” seeks to attract global audiences again in the second half of this year with its new TV lineup, the company said Thursday.
Following the release of “Celebrity” on Netflix last month, the Korean firm will premiere “Song of the Bandits,” “Gyeongseong Creature,” the second season of “Sweet Home” and “Doona!” on the U.S. streaming platform. Also, the Disney+ Original “Shadow Detective” kicked off its second season on July 5.
In particular, “Celebrity” claimed the top spot on Netflix among the global top 10 non-English TV series from July 3 to 9. Since its premiere on June 30, it has attracted over 10.8 million views.
According to Studio Dragon, this is the second time this year for one of its dramas to rank No. 1 globally.
Along with “The Glory” which took the first place in Netflix's global top 10 non-English TV series earlier this year, 20 Korean series have entered the list this year. Among them, 10 were produced by Studio Dragon.
“In the second half of this year, a variety of conceptual projects covering all genres such as action, thriller, creature, romance and fantasy, will reach audiences around the world, and we plan to further solidify our global position as a K-drama master,” a Studio Dragon official said.
Among the company's new programs, “Gyeongseong Creature” will star Park Seo-jun and Han So-hee. In the creature thriller set in the bleak spring of 1945, the actors will play the roles of a young man and woman who fight for survival against monsters born from human greed.
The second season of “Sweet Home” will star most of the cast from season 1, including Song Kang, Lee Jin-uk, Lee Si-Young, Ko Min-si and Park Gyu-young.
The romance series “Doona!” will star Bae Suzy and Yang Se-jong. The popular webtoon-based drama will follow the journey of an ordinary college student, who encounters retired K-pop idol Doona, who has left her glorious days behind and now lives in a shared house.
