Almost five years after briefly co-starring in the three-part teen series "Page Turner," actors Kim So-hyun and Ji Soo are reuniting in KBS' new historical romance series "River Where the Moon Rises.”

"Kim and I actually ran into each other twice in Singapore by chance… and after that, I thought to myself that we might have a chance to work together again,” Ji said as he expressed excitement for their reunion at an online press conference for the series, Monday. “So when we finally met for this series, I told her 'this could become the biggest hit of our acting career.'"

Based on a novel of the same name by Choi Sa-gyu, the historical series revolves around a warrior princess of Goguryeo during the Three Kingdoms era of Korea.

It is directed by Yoon Sang-ho, who has a track record of directing historical series like “Saimdang, Memoir of Colors,” and is written by Han Ji-hoon, whose most recent work was the crime series “Woman of 9.9 Billion.”

Kim plays the lead character Princess Pyeonggang who is raised and trained as a soldier. With very little faith in her father to survive political conspiracies and insurgencies, she fights her way to become the leader of the kingdom. However, her ambition takes an unexpected turn when she meets a kind-hearted man named On Dal (Ji Soo) whose only goal is to have a peaceful and harmonious life.

Kim described her character as “the living proof of a courageous woman.”

“She strives to build up Goguryeo on a strong, sturdy foundation against the odds,” she said, adding that it's one of the reasons she chose to play the role.

“I really enjoyed the script. I was so drawn to how the character has such different sides that I can portray,” she said. “I'll be able to show my tough side through the role.”

She further hinted at her character's coming-of-age as she meets On Dal. “It would be interesting to see how the story unfolds after On Dal comes into her life,” she said.

"River Where the Moon Rises” premieres on Monday.
