Actor Kim Min-kyo's two dogs ― which did not have leashes and muzzles ― attacked a woman in her 80s on May 4 in her garden in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, according to reports, Sunday.

The dogs jumped over a fence in her garden and bit her thigh and arms. She recently moved out of an intensive care unit into a general ward, reports said.

The dog breeds are unknown, but both animals reportedly weigh more than 20 kilograms.

“The woman is receiving treatment and I am with her,“ Kim Min-kyo told The Hankook Ilbo, sister paper of The Korea Times, Sunday. The actor said he would soon make an official statement.

Kim, who has appeared on numerous theater plays, movies and dramas, is best known for his performance on tvN's comedy show Saturday Night Live Korea (2011-17).

In Korea, all dogs are required to wear leashes when they go out and aggressive ones should have muzzles as well.

The animal protection law stipulates that a dog owner can face up to two years' jail or a fine of up to 20 million won ($16,000), if a dog without protective equipment injures a person.
