History of Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo

Dubbed “Song-Song Couple,” Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo have been one of the most beloved celebrity couples. They met through smash-hit TV series “Descendants of the Sun” in 2016. Joong-ki played Yoo Si-jin, the captain of a special force unit in the army and Hye-kyo played Kang Mo-yeon, a doctor who fell in love with Yoo.

Romance rumors regarding the pair went around twice in 2017. In March, an internet user claimed he had spotted the pair in New York. But the agencies of both stars denied they were a couple, saying, “They are just close friends.”

The second rumor circulated in June. A Chinese media outlet reported the couple were on a trip together in Bali, Indonesia. The stars again denied their relationship.

But in July 2017, they announced they would get married in October.

“At the beginning of the year, we promised to spend the rest of our lives together,” Joong-ki wrote on his fan cafe.

But early this year, they were engulfed in divorce rumors by Chinese media. The media raised the speculation after Hye-kyo was seen at public events without a wedding ring. But Joong-ki quelled the rumor in May by wearing the ring while reading the script for ongoing tvN drama “Arthdal Chronicle.”

Nevertheless, Joong-ki has filed for court mediation for his divorce from his wife, his lawyer said Thursday. He said he wants to terminate the marriage peacefully, instead of playing a blame game.
