Actor Son Seung-won jailed for 18 months over fourth DUI

Actor Son Seung-won, 28, has been sentenced to 18 months' prison after being found guilty of driving under the influence (DUI) and fleeing the scene of an accident that injured two.

The Seoul Central District Court said Thursday that the ruling took into account the fact Son is a repeat DUI offender and had tried to blame a junior actor who was sitting next to him when the accident occurred.

Son was charged last December with attempting to flee the scene after hitting another car and injuring two men while he was drunk and unlicensed. His license had been revoked because of an earlier DUI offense. This was his fourth DUI charge.

Son debuted in the musical "Spring Awakening" in 2009. He is best known for his roles in musicals but also starred in several TV dramas, including “Welcome to Waikiki” in 2018.
