Sechs Kies singer taken to hospital after concert

Former idol singer Kang Sung-hoon was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment of a toe fracture after his band’s concert on Sunday.

Kang is the main vocalist of six-member boy band Sechs Kies. The concert was at Olympic Park in eastern Seoul.

“He had sustained the injury prior to the concert,” YG Entertainment, the band’s agency, said, according to media reports. “He went home after being diagnosed. The injury was not serious.”

The group debuted in 1997 and became one of the most popular K-pop boy bands. It disbanded in 2000 but earlier this year was reunited by MBC variety show “Infinite Challenge” that was searching for previous K-pop stars possibly to put them back on stage. The show’s bid stirred a national sensation.

The weekend concerts, “Yellow Note,” came 16 years after the band’s last album, “Blue Note.” Ko Ji-yong, a band member who now works for a sportswear company, did not join the event.

The band sang its past hits and revealed a new number, “3 words,” to an audience of about 20,000.

Kang, 36, got the injury in April while rehearsing for the band’s comeback gig on “Infinite Challenge.”

“The injury was not completely healed,” the agency said. “The pain recurred while he was practicing for the concert.”
