'La Song' tops Chinese music chart

Rain, 34, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, placed his 2014 dance number “La Song” on China’s QQ Music Chart, according to Rain Company, his agency. The number is from the star’s sixth album titled “Rain Effect.”

The achievement came after the star appeared last Saturday on the Chinese TV variety show “Hurry Up Brothers,” a Chinese version of Korea’s “Running Man” on SBS. After the episode aired, “Rain” became the most-searched keyword on the country’s major online portals. The public frenzy for the star might have influenced the song’s topping of the music chart, Rain Company reported.

Rain most recently performed in Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo. He is scheduled to hold concerts in Macao on June 4 and Beijing on June 18.

The star debuted with JYP Entertainment’s six-member boy band Fanclub in 1998 and debuted solo using his stage name in 2002. He started acting in 2003 in Korean TV dramas, recently finishing his seventh drama “Please Come Back, Mister” on SBS in April. He has also acted in Hollywood action movies including “Speed Racer” (2008) and “Ninja Assassin” (2009).
