Hollywood is to make a film version of the Japanese cyberpunk cartoon hit from the 1990s “Battle Angel Alita.”
The cartoon, by Yukito Kishiro, ran in magazine Business Jump from 1990 to 1995.
Directors James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez will make the movie, which is expected to reach theaters after 2017, reports said Sunday.
The cartoon, set in a post-apocalyptic future, focuses on Alita, a cyborg who lost her memories and was found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her as she becomes a bounty hunter.
In the movie, Cameron, while portraying Alita’s journey to self-discovery, reportedly is asking audiences what it really means to be a human.
