Culture ministry to host K-pop festival

Psy

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will host a summer K-pop festival to revitalize the inbound tourism market and give “hallyu,” or the Korean wave, a boost.

The culture ministry said Monday the “2015 Summer K-POP Festival” will take place at Seoul City Hall Plaza today. The line-up for the concert, to start at 7 p.m., includes rapper Psy, boy bands Infinite, U-Kiss, Got7 and girl group Crayon Pop, among others. Seats will be reserved for tourists.

Theme parks, cosmetics companies and production agencies will man promotional booths from 10 a.m., and concert pamphlets, travel brochures and discount coupons will be distributed.

Tickets are available through the VisitKorea website and official social media channels of overseas KTO branches. These can then be exchanged for admission tickets at the international information booth on presenting a valid passport or photocopy.

Hangeul Museum to hold classes for foreigners

The National Hangeul Museum in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, will hold classes to help foreign students learn and experience more about Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, the museum said Monday.

The classes will consist of two parts. The first will teach students the “talchum,” helping them practice and perform lines from the traditional mask dance that includes miming, speaking and sometimes singing.

The “talchum,” originally passed down orally, was first recorded using Hangeul.

The second class will require students to write poems using Hangeul onomatopoeia. They will then write the poems in calligraphy using a brush and ink.

People can register on the museum’s website, and classes are free. Study groups must be comprised of at least 10 foreign students. For more information, visit www.hangeul.go.kr, or call (02) 2124-6444.
