Korea’s rising brass musician Kim Hong-park, 33, has been named principal hornist for the Oslo Philharmonic, according to his agency MOC production, Monday.
Kim’s first year in the orchestra starts in the forthcoming season. It is extremely rare for a Korean brass instrumentalist to join a prestigious European orchestra as a principal member.
Kim graduated summa cum laude from Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University’s College of Music.
The Smithsonian Institution has revealed over 40,000 images of Asian artifacts online, some of them opened to the public for the first time.
The 40,691 digitized images are from the collection of the Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. The collection ranges from East Asian countries, including China, Japan and Korea, to Middle Eastern countries.
The collection includes 781 Korean works such as ink-and-wash paintings, celadon from Goryeo Kingdom (918-1392), Buddhist Paintings from Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910) and folding screens.
Julian Raby, the museum's director, told the Washington Post that the move is a "part of the democratization of art," as the images are available to researches as well as publics worldwide.
The images can be seen at the institution’s website at open.asia.si.edu. All the images are provided without copyright restrictions for non-commercial use.
Korean actress Kim Min-hee was cast in Hong Sang-soo’s new film.
“Kim Min-hee will playing a lead role in Hong Sang-soo’s upcoming film and will start filming this month,” Kim’s agency SOOP ENT said Tuesday.
Kim is a model-turned-actress who built has built a notable career in both small and big screens. She won the Best Film Actress at the 49th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2013 for her work in "Very Ordinary Couple." She is currently working on “Agassi” (working title), a Park Chan-wook film based on Sarah Waters' novel “Fingersmith.”
The film is the 17th work of the award-winning director. Hong is one of the internationally established arthouse film directors.
Actor Jung Jae-young has been confirmed as Kim’s counterpart. Jung starred in another Hong film “Our Sunhi” in 2013.
