From ITZY to Illit: K-pop girl groups eye early summer chart dominance

K-pop is gearing up for a sizzling summer as a wave of girl groups prepares to make their return this June. Armed with bold concepts and devoted fanbases, new releases from these powerhouse acts promise to ignite summer passions during the industry's busiest season.

Four groups will return on June 9 alone: ITZY, Kiss of Life, IZNA and QWER.

Veteran K-pop act ITZY, a five-member group, will release its new mini album, "Girls Will Be Girls," marking the group's first release in eight months, following last October's "Gold." The album features five tracks, including the title song, "Kiss & Tell," "Promise" and "Walk."

Kiss of Life is also returning after an eight-month break. The group's upcoming fourth mini album, "224," includes seven tracks, with the title song "Lips Hips Kiss," along with "Tell Me," "Painting" and "Heart of Gold." Member Natty took part in writing the lyrics for "Tell Me" and "Painting," while Julie penned "Heart of Gold."

IZNA joins the comeback rush the same day with its second single "BEEP," which includes both the original track and a Japanese-language version.

Band QWER, composed of four streamers-turned-singers, is also making a comeback with its third mini album, which includes six tracks.

Major K-pop agencies are also rolling out comeback plans for some of their top artists this month.

SM Entertainment announced on May 15 that aespa is preparing for a June comeback, though the exact date has yet to be confirmed. It will mark the group’s first release since "Whiplash," their fifth mini album, which cemented their status as five-time million-album-sellers.

SM's rookie group Hearts2Hearts, which debuted in February, is also set to return in June. The multinational eight-member act — Jiwoo, Carmen, Yuha, Stella, Juun, A-na, Ian and Ye-on — broke records when their debut single "The Chase," become the first by a girl group to sell over 400,000 copies in the first week of release.

HYBE Labels also has major comebacks in store. Iliit will release their third mini album "Bomb" on June 16, featuring five tracks: the title song "Do the Dance," along with "Little Monster," "Jellyous," "Oops!" and "Bamsopoong."

U.S.-based girl group KATSEYE is set to drop its second mini album "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS" on June 27. The album features five songs, including viral pre-release single "Gnarly," as well as "Gabriela," "Gameboy," "Mean Girls" and "M.I.A."

KATSEYE recently made waves by debuting at No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 90 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart Top 100 with "Gnarly," heightening anticipation for the team's full album release.

Fromis_9, now reorganized as a five-member group, is also set to make a comeback. On May 20, its new agency ASND confirmed that the group will release a new album in June, describing it as "a summer-themed project that captures the group's signature charm."

This marks fromis_9's first comeback since last December's single "from," and their first release since departing HYBE's Pledis Entertainment and signing an exclusive contract with their new label.

Also joining the June comeback lineup is rookie five-member group HITGS, currently gearing up to release a new digital single titled "GROSS" on June 2. Meanwhile, ARTMS, a group formed by former Loona members Jinsoul, Haseul, Kim Lip, Heejin, and Choerry, will release its new album, "Club Icarus," on June 13.
