S.Coups of K-pop boy band SEVENTEEN will not take part in promotional activities for the group’s upcoming mini-album, “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN,” due to an injury to his knee.
The 28-year-old, whose real name is Choi Seung-cheol, sustained a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee in August during a shoot.
His agency, Pledis Entertainment, said Thursday that the singer is still recovering after undergoing surgery.
“The medical staff told us that the injured area is still very fragile,” reads its statement that was shared on the fan platform, Weverse. “They also said it is worrisome for him to perform activities that are hard on his body at this moment of rehabilitation. S.Coups strongly wanted to participate in his team’s prearranged schedule, but we concluded that our artist’s health should be our top priority.”
Asking his fans for their understanding, the agency added that it would give full support to S.Coups to help him recover as soon as possible.
SEVENTEEN, which burst onto the K-pop scene with the EP, “17 Carat” in 2015, will roll out its 11th mini-album on Oct. 23. According to album distributor YG Plus, it has clocked up more than 4.67 million pre-orders – a record high for the group since its debut.
