Fans of Beethoven’s symphonies have eagerly anticipated this recording released in late December 2012. The five-CD box set captures the live performances of all of the German composer’s nine symphonies by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) under the direction of conductor Mariss Jansons.
The Latvian maestro has long been associated with Mahler, Strauss and Shostakovich. With this release, Jansons now joins the handful of elite conductors who conquered the monumental feat of recording all Beethoven symphonies, including the late Herbert von Karajan as well as today’s top conductors like Daniel Barenboim and Claudio Abbado.
Local concertgoers who were impressed by the BRSO’s recent Beethoven tour in Seoul will certainly enjoy this phenomenal release by BR Klassik, the orchestra’s in-house label. This recording is currently available only in Japan.
