The remake of Korean horror movie “Whispering Corridors” is gearing up to thrill Indonesian viewers in April.
The largest film production company in Indonesia, MD Pictures, has teamed up with Korean production firm Studio-invictus to work on the remake, according to several industry sources. They aim to release the film on April 11 in Indonesia.
“The collaboration was formed largely thanks to the recent promotion of friendship between Korea and Indonesia,” an official said. “MD Pictures singled out this film as one of the main lineups for next year, and a big budget will be invested for the production.”
Casting is reportedly now under way.
“Whispering Corridors” premiered in 1998 and gave rise to the so-called “school horror” genre in Korea. The film deals with frightening incidents at a girls' high school. Several sequels followed the original film.
Many new faces were catapulted to stardom after appearing in the movie and have become A-list actresses. Lee Mi-yeon, Choi Kang-hee and Song Ji-hyo are just a few examples.
The latest installment was released in 2009 and the sixth season will open next year in Korea.
