Warm spring weather is forecast throughout the weekend, including Saturday, when BTS is set to hold its highly-anticipated comeback concert.
But with sharp swings between daytime and nighttime temperatures expected, bringing an extra layer is recommended, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.
At its regular forecast briefing Thursday, the KMA said the Korean Peninsula would remain under the influence of a migratory anticyclone throughout the weekend, bringing clear skies and wide temperature gaps between day and night.
Friday’s highs are expected to range from 11 to 17 degrees Celsius, with lows of minus 6 to minus 4 degrees. On Saturday, the day of the BTS concert, highs are forecast at 12 to 18 degrees, while lows will range from minus 7 to minus 4 degrees. Sunday’s highs are expected to reach 13 to 17 degrees, with lows between minus 8 and minus 1 degrees.
Although temperatures will remain near the seasonal average throughout the weekend — with lows of minus 6 to minus 2 degrees Celsius and highs of 11 to 17 degrees — caution is needed to stay warm during the night amid the sharp temperature gap of more than 15 degrees.
The KMA added that the migratory anticyclone will move away from the peninsula on Saturday, while a new high-pressure system approaches from the west.
As the Korean Peninsula falls between the two systems, a north-south trough is expected to form, creating a saddle-shaped pressure pattern.
The agency said skies would remain mostly cloudy, with rain possible in some areas. Jeju is expected to see rainfall early in next week.
"Extra caution is needed during the thawing season, when temperatures fluctuate sharply,” the KMA said. “Repeated freezing and thawing of the ground can raise the risk of rockfalls and collapses.”
