The World Bank has named Joyce Msuya as the chief for its first Korea office, the government said Tuesday.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said Msuya, the World Bank Institute’s regional coordinator for East Asia & the Pacific, will begin her term in Songdo from August.

The Washington-based lending institution set up its office in the international financial district near Incheon on Dec. 4 last year.

Born in 1968, the Tanzanian has worked at the World Bank Institute’s Beijing office that supports the lender’s operational work and its country clients to fight poverty and promote shared prosperity.

Before joining the institute, Msuya worked in private sector development at the International Finance Corporation.

This is a member-organization of the World Bank that offers investment, advisory, and asset management services for developing countries.

She also built expertise in development economics as well as lending operations in the health sector at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
