Samsung Electronics

, the world’s leading smartphone maker, announced Thursday that it has sold more than 10 million Galaxy Note gadgets in Korea since the Galaxy Note 1, the first model of the series, was released in September 2011. Sales for each of the Galaxy Note models, the latest of which is Galaxy Note 3, surpassed 10 million units worldwide, reflecting its competitiveness in the global gadget market.

LG CNS

, a global IT service provider, said Thursday that it has won a 37 billion won deal to build an ICT education infrastructure in Colombia. Under a contract with Colombia’s Ministry of National Education, six innovative education centers equipped with facilities for developing educational contents will be built. The contents and the facilities developed by LG CNS will be distributed to 50 elementary and middle schools in Colombia. The project will start this year and continue through 2015.

Korean Air

, the nation’s number one carrier, said Wednesday that it will pay 122 billion won to settle a class action lawsuit filed for cargo price fixing. The airline has been accused by U.S. cargo transfer companies of fixing prices since 2006. After several years of legal wrangling, both parties finally reached an agreement to settle the suit and are now waiting for approval of the settlement from the U.S. federal court in New York.

Namyang Dairy Products

, a major dairy product maker, is in hot water over alleged tax evasion, the latest in a series of misconduct charges. Hong Won-sik, chairman of the company, was indicted on charges of evading taxes amounting to 7.3 billion won, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday. According to a prosecutor, Hong is suspected of buying artworks with checks and shares inherited from his father to dodge paying gift taxes. Hong is also suspected of trading shares under borrowed names to avoid paying transfer and income taxes, the prosecutor said.
