The securities arm of Mirae Asset Financial Group has established sisterhood relations with a remote fishing village in Ungdori, South Chungcheong Province to help senior citizens there.

It is also the first securities company to set up customer services exclusively for the visually-impaired.

“The growth of an enterprise should come in line with development of society and a firm should pay attention to corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities,” the firm said. “We’ll put our utmost effort to show compassion to neighbors in need.”

Since 2006, the company has organized a coastal clean-up every year at the village in Ungdori.

The firm has also hosted a party every May to commemorate Parents’ Day in the region. It invited 70 senior citizens from the area to Seoul where they visited tour attractions including Gyeongbok Palace, Cheonggye Stream and the N Seoul Tower.

“We seek to enhance our sisterhood relations with the village people through more active communications,” said Mirae Asset Securities CEO Byun Jae-sang. “Such a program is one of our CSR activities we’re proud of, and we’ll continue to develop.”

The company set up customer services exclusively for the visually-impaired in 2009. A Braille banking system including accounts, as well as stock trades using a telephone service center are available for the blind and those with vision problems.

The company said it will expand its activities by collaborating with community centers for physically-challenged people. Its efforts will include financial support for eyesight recovery surgery and publishing Braille books.

The company has made CSR activities mandatory for new recruits and interns in their job training. Those workers regularly participate in cleaning and meal services for childcare centers and nursing homes for the aged people in Seoul.
