LG CNS and Samsung SDS are partnering with OpenAI to roll out ChatGPT Edu across educational institutions.
The two companies each announced on Monday that it has signed reseller agreements with OpenAI for the service, marking a coordinated push to expand generative artificial intelligence (AI) adoption across campuses.
ChatGPT Edu is a version of OpenAI’s flagship chatbot designed for academic and administrative use cases for schools and universities. It supports tasks such as creating lecture materials, compiling research, drafting reports and personalized tutoring.
The service provides enterprise-grade security, ensuring that sensitive academic data is not used for model training, a key requirement for institutions handling research and student information. It also offers a more accessible pricing structure to lower barriers to AI adoption among institutions.
The service has gained traction globally since launching in 2024, with universities such as Arizona State University, Harvard University and California State University integrating the tool into teaching and administrative workflows.
In Korea, the partnerships are expected to accelerate institutional uptake. LG CNS plans to roll out a series of campus tours to introduce ChatGPT Edu at major universities in the Seoul area, along with AI-focused seminars.
The company is also exploring collaborations with universities and OpenAI to develop AI curricula based on ChatGPT Edu and host hackathons to build practical skills among students and faculty.
“We have expanded into the education AI transformation (AX) market after rapidly building a track record of enterprise use cases through its ChatGPT Enterprise business,” said Kim Tae-hoon, LG CNS’ senior vice president and head of AI cloud business division.
“We will support more students and educational institutions in leveraging AI to enhance productivity in learning and research.”

Samsung SDS is also planning to expand the rollout of gen AI services across schools, publishers and other academic institutions with this partnership.
The company is currently conducting a proof of concept project with Korea National Open University, which has around 90,000 students, faculty and staff, to deploy ChatGPT Edu. Following the pilot, both sides are expected to discuss broader implementation.
“We expect ChatGPT Edu to create a safer environment for using generative AI in educational settings, while also accelerating the adoption of user experiences,” said Lee Jeong-heon, Samsung SDS’ executive vice president and head of strategic marketing.
LG CNS and Samsung SDS have been strengthening their OpenAI partnerships since signing reseller agreements.
LG CNS operates an OpenAI Launch Center offering consulting and technical services, backed by AI engineers and architects, and has already secured around 10 enterprise clients across various industries since February.
Samsung SDS, which signed Korea’s first OpenAI reseller deal last December, provides end-to-end AX services spanning consulting, deployment and operations through its integrated one-team model.
