KT will launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platform to support the Supreme Court’s judicial case management, the mobile carrier said Monday.
According to the company, it has signed a 14.5 billion won ($10.42 million) agreement with the Supreme Court to develop the platform aimed at enhancing judicial operations.
The project — led by a consortium comprising KT, legal tech startup LBOX, and AI solution companies Konan Technology and MT Data — aims to drive the court’s digital transformation and improve the accuracy and efficiency of the judicial process over the next four years.
“This project represents a major step in driving the digital transformation of judicial administration by consolidating KT’s full AI capabilities,” Yoo Yong-kyu, KT executive vice president of the public customer business unit, said in a release.
“We’re committed to delivering AI services optimized for the public sector with our (AI model) Mi:dm 2.0 at the core. And as a company dedicated to AI and information and communication technology, we’ll do our utmost to enhance the nation’s judicial competitiveness.”
To secure the project through a competitive bidding process, the consortium’s proposal featured a multi-large language model (LLM) lineup based on its self-developed Korean LLM Mi:dm 2.0, including a legal-focused language model. It also leveraged LBOX’s expertise in operating legal-specialized AI services and Konan Technology’s advanced data search and labeling capabilities, tailored for the legal domain.
KT plans to leverage its extensive experience with AI transformation (AX) projects in the public sector to take the lead in designing and developing the judiciary AI platform.
It will feature an AI model specialized in the legal domain, assistance in drafting judicial orders, AI-powered search tools for previous court rulings and statutes and an automated function to extract and summarize key legal issues in cases.
“The Supreme Court anticipates this initiative will resolve backlogs in trials and significantly improve productivity in its administrative process, ushering in a new era of AI innovation in judicial administration,” a KT official said.
Following this flagship project, KT also intends to expand its AX businesses among the public and private sectors using Mi:dm 2.0.
