Major Korean battery firms are set to showcase their advanced technologies as they look to break free of the recent market slowdown, which was caused by the global oversupply of electric vehicles (EVs), industry officials said Sunday.

LG Energy Solution (LGES) will unveil its pouch-type cell-to-pack technology at the InterBattery 2024 trade fair, which will take place at COEX in Seoul from Wednesday to Friday.

The battery maker plans to install a battery using the technology in a mock-up vehicle so that visitors can better learn about the new technology, which enhances energy densities and reduces weight and costs by assembling cells directly into battery packs.

In addition, the company will exhibit its small pouch-type mid-nickel cell for IT devices. The Isuzu Elf Mio electric truck, which is equipped with LGES’s products, will also be on display at the Korean battery firm’s exhibition pavilion.

SK On will introduce its advanced fast-charging solutions to visitors at the trade show.

“Our Advanced SF Battery is an upgraded version of the original SF Battery, increasing the energy density by 9 percent, while maintaining the same fast-charging time of 18 minutes,” the battery maker said. “Higher energy density means that a battery can store a larger amount of energy, leading to further driving range on a single charge.”

The company will also showcase the SF+ Battery, which enables a faster charging time of 15 minutes. The Winter Pro LFP Battery, underscoring its low-temperature performances, will also be on display at its exhibition pavilion.

Samsung SDI will elaborate on its plan to develop and produce an all-solid-state battery.

POSCO Group, which only sent its materials subsidiary POSCO Future M to the previous year’s event, is ready for group-wide participation at this year’s exhibition to introduce the battery value chain established by the steelmaker’s various affiliates.

EcoPro, L&F and Dongwha Electrolyte are also set to showcase their technologies for the production of advanced battery materials.

“InterBattery 2024 will be a milestone for Korean battery firms to find new opportunities for the future amid the uncertain business environment,” said Park Tae-sung, vice chairman of the Korea Battery Industry Association, one of the trade show’s organizers.
