NCSOFT is preparing to launch its role-playing game (RPG) Throne and Liberty (TL), Dec. 7. The company said Wednesday that the global market was considered from the beginning of the game's development and that it will launch internationally next year in partnership with global publisher Amazon Games.

"Creating a global MMORPG (massively multiplayer online RPG) was our goal from the beginning of the project," said PD Ahn Jong-wook, the producer in charge of TL’s development. He also stated that they added content and business models that many people across the world can enjoy.

NCSOFT has been working to tailor various in-game systems to the tastes and demands of global users in order to satisfy a wider range of players.

After the closed beta testing that was conducted here in May, NCSOFT also conducted a pilot test in an overseas market with global publisher Amazon Games in September. Based on the feedback from the test, they revamped the system to meet the standards of global users.

Ahn said that they decided to remove the automatic hunting and automatic movement system to consider the preferences of North American and European users who enjoy more dynamic gameplay.

With the removal of automatic hunting, the entire combat system has been revamped. Characters can now attack while moving and a non-targeting skill has been added that hits a specific point rather than designating a specific character or monster. The weapon combination system, which allows players to equip and use two types of weapons, has also been enhanced, allowing for a variety of combat styles based on user preference and control proficiency.

Regarding TL’s business model, NCSOFT said it will utilize a battle pass system, where players can progress through gameplay by leveling up, completing daily or weekly tasks and earning various cosmetic items and in-game currency rewards.

“Our goal is to create a PC MMORPG that attracts many people," Ahn said. “We promise that we will not change the focus of the battle pass-centered approach.”

TL has been proving its popularity through character creation in the domestic market prior to its official launch. NCSOFT said that its five opened servers were fully booked in just one hour, so more servers were added.
