KT implements 'autonomous intelligent vehicle' system

KT has implemented an autonomous intelligent vehicles (AIV) system at its distribution center to reduce the workload of employees while increasing efficiency, becoming the first local telecom company to utilize the technology.
According to the telecom company Sunday, the AIV transport carts use its 5G network to enhance efficiency. Cellphones are loaded onto the carts for easy and swift transport while reducing employees' travel range by 47 percent.
The AIV uses KT's joint mobility platform dubbed 5G Mobility Makers, which takes the role of the remote control tower of the unmanned carts as well as analyzing the carts' data and operations.
KT has been developing contactless technology in preparation for the contingency of a prolonged COVID-19 crisis and plans to implement the technology in diverse industries including hospitals and libraries in the future.
“Entering the post-COVID era there are many industries implementing contactless technologies to minimize human-to-human contact,” a KT official said. “Through KT's Mobility Makers we plan to expand the use of AIV to diverse industries and lead in the development so that one day consumers will also be able to benefit from the AIV technology.”
