LG to unveil robot mop cleaner at CES

LG Electronics will introduce a robotic cleaner that can clean floors at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be held in Las Vegas from Jan. 7 to 10, the company said Tuesday.

The company said it decided to develop the robotic mop cleaner as it has seen a growing international demand for machines that can mop hard floors.

“We've seen high demand for a mopping machine in Asian countries such as Korea and Japan where many consumers want to mop up their floors. Consumers in European countries and the U.S. also want to have the mopping machine to clean their spaces that are not carpeted,” the company said.

This is LG's first robotic mop cleaner. The company said it has an advanced automatic water supply system allowing the machine's two mop pads to always have the right amount of water for cleaning.

“LG has applied the automatic water supply system to its CordZero A9 cleaner, which can be switched from vacuum to mop and received well by consumers,” the company added.

To accommodate different types of flooring, users can choose to increase, decrease or completely shut off the flow of water. Using the LG ThinQ smartphone app, users can also remotely designate which specific areas of the house to clean.

Equipped with two cameras, the robotic mop cleaner is designed to accurately detect and recognize its surroundings to avoid collisions with furniture or pets.

LG is gearing up efforts to display its cutting-edge home appliance at the world's largest consumer electronics show. Targeting the U.S. washing machine market, it will also introduce a 27-inch washer. The washer is powered by a direct drive motor directly connected to the drum, reducing energy consumption and noise.
