SAP partners with Veritas to build data backup system

SAP will make a foray into data backup and disaster recovery for public organizations in Korea, joining hands with data protection company Veritas Technologies, the Korean unit of the Germany-based computer software company, said Monday.

SAP Korea said the two signed a partnership to develop data backup and disaster recovery systems for public organizations at its headquarters in Seoul.

The company, which mainly sells its in-memory database management system SAP HANA to major technology and financial companies and public agencies, said the partnership between the two will be a win-win as many public organizations here are increasingly adopting the SAP HANA system and the importance of data backup and recovery systems are increasing.

“For IT systems of public organizations, establishing data backup and disaster recovery systems are essentially required. In that sense, Veritas Technologies Korea, which has a high market share in the sector, is the best partner for SAP, which has a strong sales network in the public agencies and enterprises market,” SAP Korea said.

Based in the United States, Veritas Technologies is known for providing data protection service for enterprises.

“There has been an increasing need to build data backup and disaster recovery systems for public organizations because the amount of data they are using is increasing exponentially,” said Cho Won-young, head of Veritas Technologies Korea. “Combining our expertise in data protection with SAP's leading database management software for enterprises, the two are expected to generate new business opportunities.”

Under the partnership, SAP Korea and Veritas Technologies Korea will cooperate on developing various services, sharing information of digital innovation they have delivered and running proof-of-concept trials together.
