LG CNS to offer AI-powered medical services to public health center

LG CNS will offer artificial intelligence (AI)-powered medical image analysis services to the Public Health Center in Eunpyeong-gu, northwestern Seoul, in a project led by the Ministry of Science and ICT to expand the application of cloud computing services in the public sector, the company said Thursday.

The LG Group subsidiary focusing on information technology services said it will cooperate with healthcare AI startup Lunit to offer AI-powered medical image analysis services at the center from September to the end of next year.

It marks the first time for the AI engine to be used at a public health center here.

The service is designed to offer X-ray results analyzed by the AI engine.

The company said the service is capable of analyzing X-ray images in 20 seconds and is aimed at achieving 94 percent accuracy.

The service will enable doctors to diagnose lung diseases more accurately, helping patients receive treatment early.

In general, local public health centers commission external organizations to examine X-ray images, and it takes about a day to receive the results.

With the AI service, patients using the Public Health Center will be able to receive the X-ray results much faster, the company said.

“The purpose of the service is to offer advanced public healthcare services at the lowest costs,” said Jeong Woon-yeol, a vice president who heads the public business unit at LG CNS. “We will continue to expand the range of diseases it can diagnose.”
