LG Hausys' window handle equipped with internet of things (IoT) technology won a 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovation Award in the smart home category, the company said Tuesday.

The CES is one of the world's largest electronics trade shows and is taking place in Las Vegas.

This is the first time a Korean construction materials company has received the CES Innovation Award, according to the firm.

The company said its Hidden Display Handle is an IoT window handle that advises when to open the window on a built-in display using weather, air-pollution and indoor-air-quality information.

The product analyzes indoor and outdoor air quality as well as users' habits, providing the best ventilation guidelines. It is interoperable with air conditioners and purifiers.

“IoT technology has expanded into the living space,” said Vice President of LG Hausys R&D Institute Lee Min-hee. “Construction materials companies, which were regarded as traditional, have been transformed in tandem with the changes. The Hidden Display Handle is the best example.”

The company added its handle maximizes the harmony of the window by choosing a design that hides the LCD device and displays the graphical user interface.
