Koreans had 102 on average in October, outnumbering the 71 of the United States and 80 of Japan, data from local digital marketing firm App Ape showed.

The data was based on an analysis of 382,000 Android smartphone users in the three countries. Apple's iPhones were excluded for technical reasons. The data has a confidence level of 95 percent, with a 4 percent margin of error, the company said. ?

Domestic users activated only 39 apps in the month, while the number fell to 26 in the U.S. and Japan.

The most activated apps in the countries were for interpersonal communication and mobile payment services.

In Korea, apps related to financial services and lifestyle were particularly active. Game apps were popular in Japan, while social media and communication apps ruled in the U.S.
