LSIS’ new power transformer Susol
LSIS unveiled its new transformer capable of withstanding earthquake magnitudes of up to 8.0, Wednesday.
The cast-resin power transformer, Susol, was developed amid lingering safety concerns on earthquakes here and abroad, with demand expected to surge for years to come, according to the Seoul-based electric equipment manufacturer.
LSIS said the latest equipment will allow the firm to expand its global presence, as the earthquake-proof transformer industry has so far been driven mainly by overseas power equipment giants such as ABB.
“The latest model is equipped with our cutting-edge earthquake-resistant technologies,” a company official said. “We will expand sales channels here and abroad, as the equipment is competitive compared to that of our global rivals.”
As government is strengthening safety standards for earthquakes, the company said it plans to diversify its revenue into such areas as power plants as well as manufacturing facilities and railway systems where demand runs high for more solid transformers.
“While securing a strong foothold here, LSIS will also tap deeper into key target regions, including Southeast Asia and South America where earthquakes are more common,” he said.
The company started developing the transformer last March, winning a certificate for its earthquake-proof performance by a local research body in August. Starting this March, the firm began mass production.
