KT has launched an Internet protocol television (IPTV)-based pet care service, allowing users to monitor their pets in real-time and buy their foods and accessories through mobile devices.
The nation’s dominant fixed-line operator said Sunday it began the “Wal House” service, taking advantage of the firm’s massive IPTV user base and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Pet owners will be able to monitor their dogs and cats with their mobile devices, as the service comes with its home-monitoring camera, Wal Cam. KT said it will also develop a platform where KT’s Olleh TV users can buy pet items shown on TV programs.
The service came amid growing markets for pet products and services, at a time when more than 10 million people out of the nation’s 50 million care for pets in their homes, said the company.
“Wal House is a two-way communication service for pet owners in the nation,” Yoo Hee-kwan, vice president at KT’s media business division, said in a statement. “KT Olleh TV will continue to develop more IPTV services to meet diverse needs from customers, and offer differentiated experiences for our users.”
KT will also offer special video content for pets staying alone at home. The company said Wal House users will access content delivering owners’ videos and voices, relieving the loneliness and stress of pets. Owners can also control those services with their mobile devices anywhere, according to the mobile carrier.
