SKC to build smart transport system in Vietnam

SK, a system integration service provider previously known as SK C&C, said Tuesday it will provide an intelligent transport system (ITS) in Vietnam.

The company said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s largest transport system provider ITD to cooperate in the country’s ITS project.

“In cooperation with ITD, we will lead the growth of the ITS market in Vietnam and solidify our presence as the country’s top ITS provider,” said Ahn Hee-chul, head of SK’s manufacturing business group. “Besides the ITS, we will discover more business opportunities in the country’s information and communication technology sector.”

SK has provided an integrated ITS platform named NEXCORE-ITS for the highway connecting Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi with Haiphong. NEXCORE-ITS includes systems such as vehicle detection, traffic condition monitoring, toll collection, roadside electronic signage control, closed-circuit TV, bus management and illegal parking detection.

The company first established the system in Korea and has provided it in global markets such as Azerbaijan and Mongolia.

Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly establish a task force to push for additional ITS projects in Vietnam based on NEXCORE-ITS. The task force will seek new business opportunities in other sectors such as smart security systems, SK said.

Vietnam aims at increasing per-capita GDP to $3,200 by 2020 and plans to expand industrial infrastructure including a nationwide road network.
