LG Uplus launches IoT home security service

LG Uplus said Wednesday that it will launch smart home security services under cooperation with a security management firm and digital door lock maker.

Through collaborating with the world’s leading security firm ADT CAPS and Korea’s top door lock brand Gateman, the telecom company said it will boost its home Internet of Things (IoT) business.

“We have created unprecedented, differentiated customer value by combining telecom and security services,” said Senior Vice President Ahn Sung-jun of LG Uplus’ converged home business division in a statement. “We will continue to lead the IoT sector by strengthening cooperation with diverse industries and introducing intelligent IoT services in the future.”

Under the partnership, LG Uplus has launched a home security system service dubbed IoT CAPS, combining ADT CAPS’ security guard service and Gateman’s door lock with IoT technology. This system can automatically lock entrances, detect intruders and notify security guards. All functions can be controlled remotely using a smartphone.

The system also can be used alongside LG Uplus’ other home IoT devices such as a smart switch and plug to make it look as if there is someone home, the company said.

“We will strengthen our domestic home security market presence by launching IoT CAPS here,” an official at ADP CAPS said.
