LSIS has clinched a deal with a smart sensor manufacturer to build more smart factories across the nation, the nation’s leading electrical equipment manufacturer said Thursday.

A smart factory is a manufacturing facility equipped with information and communication technology (ICT) enabling real-time control of production plans or processes.

The LS Group affiliate said that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Autonics, a domestic industrial sensor maker, over mutual collaboration on building more digitalized factories.

The move comes under the government-led “manufacturing revolution 3.0” policy aimed at building more than 10,000 smart factories across the nation by 2020.

“We are seeking to turn our smart factory project into a global model, and export the factory management system globally,” said an LSIS official. “The latest deal is expected to enhance our competitiveness as a factory management solutions provider, backed by Autonics’ capability in smart sensor technologies.”

The automated factory management market is gaining prominence as a next-generation growth area. Such a system can detect signs of disorder in manufacturing processes, thus increasing manufacturing efficiency and reducing production costs, the company said.

LSIS has already applied its smart production solutions to its manufacturing facility in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.
