LAS VEGAS ― Sony has unveiled its latest 4K TV equipped with its picture-only processor technology at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Thursday (KST).
“The ability to analyze signals and reduce noise allows us to more accurately produce colors, and this process is done by Sony’s picture-only processing technology,” said a Sony official at its booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center. “The actual processor is unique to Sony, so we have a separate processor that manages the TV’s video processing.”
With its image-processing expertise, the company aims to steal the limelight at CES 2016 with the 4K HDR TV set to be officially launched later this year, the official said.
The 4K HDR TV comes with brightness up to 4,000 bits, four times higher than the 1000 bits of Samsung’s latest super ultra-high-definition (SUHD) TV.
HDR refers to high-dynamic-range technology enabling devices to express a more vivid, wider range of colors. The improved contrast helps TVs or smart devices to reproduce a wider range of brightness and darkness.
The X930D model can express HDR images and comes with what it calls Slim Backlight Drive technology.
The move came amid increasing demand for HDR content in the video services industry. Global TV giants such as Samsung and LG have picked HDR compatibility as the first feature for their recent TVs.
To improve sound quality, the company has adopted X-tended Dynamic Range PRO technology, allowing the new TVs to reproduce better and richer sounds for users.
The new model comes in three sizes ― 55 inches, 65 inches and a flagship 75 inches. The exact launch data and price have yet to be decided, the company said.
