Samsung Electronics unveiled a new storage device that is more powerful and offers more data storage capacity amid growing consumer demand to process data-heavy content with enhanced writing and reading speed.

Samsung said it will start selling its T3-branded solid state drive (SSD) products beginning in Korea, followed by the United States, China and countries in Europe after the product was showcased at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016.

The new SSD is an external drive with improved speed and data-storage stability compared with conventional hard disk drives (HDDs).

Samsung spokesman Justin Lee said the T3 has four variants with different storage capacities ― 250 gigabyte (GB), 500GB, 1terabyte (TB) and 2TB.

“The T3 is up to four times faster than HDDs and that makes the product suitable to download ultra high-definition (UHD) data without interruption. Also, the premium 2TB model supports users who want to store 400 full HD movies. The 2TB model is ideal for professionals such as designers and photographers,” Lee said.

The new SSD has enhanced secret codes to improve security, a move by the company to approach corporate clients and can sync with smartphones, tablets and smart TVs.

Samsung, the world’s top memory chipmaker, was the first to introduce consumer SSDs based on 48-layer V-NAND technology last September.

The company is working to expand its SSD lineup especially for corporate clients as Samsung expects demand to remain solid amid the growing importance of data management.
