LG CNS said Sunday that it plans to expand its business in the United States, by highlighting the ability of its integrated energy storage systems (ESS).
CNS plans to strengthen its partnership with LG Chem, another LG affiliate, with the company using the latter's secured client channels to promote its products. LG Chem is the global leader in rechargeable batteries, a main source for ESS.
According to a Leaderboard Report by Navigant Research in May, a U.S.-based market research firm, LG CNS won the first position in that segment in Asia and 4th in the world.
LG CNS’ competitive edge in the energy storage market lies in its experience to construct IT System Integration (SI) as a leader in the market, the company claimed.
The company uses its 28 years of SI experience in the energy industry to provide the energy storage system on a turn-key basis by performing all processes ranging from the planning, design, implementation and management of energy projects, it said.
“LG CNS has emerged as a new force in energy storage system integration in the world to keep up with these trends,” said a spokesman of LG CNS in the statement.
LG CNS built the world’s largest ESS for management of 23 megawatt hour (MWh) for an LG Chem plant in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, in 2014. It also participated in a project that used energy storage for frequency regulation as one of the ancillary services for the integrated governor free control (GFC) and automatic generation control (AGC) service model for Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). LG CNS has been working on another project with KEPCO and other partners to transform Ulleung Island in the East Sea into the world’s biggest 100 percent self-contained green energy island by 2020. LG CNS said it will utilize renewable as well as new energy systems to develop a converged stand-alone Smart Micro-grid solution including ESS an energy management system.
“The global energy market is transitioning from a conventional supplier-driven system to a customized system, which meets the customers’ needs and conditions,” the spokesman said.
LG CNS has a mid- and long-term vision, which centered on becoming one of the major energy service players in the energy market in the U.S., he continued.
“To realize the vision, we will integrate world-class energy systems held by LG Corporation’s affiliates and make a variety of partnerships with major solution providers in the U.S. to create a successful business model that serves the needs of our customers.”
